Scotia Harvest Inc. is committed to the principles of responsible fishing and the long-term sustainability of Canada's seafood resources. Starting as a family business, our family has been involved in the fishery for generations and we would like to ensure that the resources we have always relied upon remain healthy for future generations.
We only harvest wild-caught marine species managed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans and are committed to follow all regulations and conservation harvesting plans established for each fishery. Our fisheries are managed using a combination of Individually Transferable Quotas (ITQ) and Enterprise Allocations (EA). This means we are allocated a percentage of the Total Allowable Catch (TAC) set annually based on a rigorous science program combined with industry and public consultations.
Many of our primary fisheries (Full Bay scallop, Scotia-Fundy haddock, Canada Atlantic halibut) have been certified as sustainable by the Marine Stewardship Council (MSC), an independent third party organization, and we constantly strive to advance knowledge on the oceans and the bountiful resources it contains to ensure they are properly being managed. Our management team is an active participant in both the science and management processes in place for all our fisheries and believe we are a responsible harvester of these resources. We also work with the Department of Fisheries and Oceans (DFO), which often charters our vessels and experienced crew to help perform surveys and collect data to support robust stock assessments required to properly manage fisheries.
We are convinced that we are doing our utmost to ensure that we continue providing you with responsibly harvested fish for generations to come. Relax and enjoy the great taste of wild caught fish from the pristine North Atlantic that we have harvested and cared for from the ocean to you!
